Over the past 15 years, Steampunk—a welding of SF, Victorian and punk rock asthetics—has gone from being a literary subgenre to a way of life. Its distinctive expression now permeates music, movies, comics, fashion, art and more.
The Steampunk Bible by Jeff VanderMeer with S.J. Chambers is the first and ultimate guide to this fascinating culture. Inside you’ll discover the movement’s roots in the work of Jules Verne and H.G. Wells; the key figures who spawned a literary genre; the vast community of inventors and artists crafting retro tech and neo-vintage style; and the trends that promise to boost Steampunk into the future. Baroque and beautiful, this richly illustrated book gauges Steampunk’s allure for adherents and novices alike.

I teach a collge level science fiction and culure class and due to its great images and descriptions/explanations will use the "bible" as a bridge between modern and post modern fiction. It truly is a beautiful text.

I discovered 'steampunk' this year and can't get enough. But since I'm late coming into it, unless you count my younger reads(Jules Verne, Wells, Poe, etc., and my watching tv repeats of Wild, Wild West and movies like Time Machine), so I was lacking in my actual knowledge of the genre. Well, not anymore. If you like steampunk you should really get this fun book. It has pictures of favorite authors as well as much needed info on who is who and what is what. Recommned!
