For decades, we have thrilled to her fantastical visions, her unparalleled world-building and her emphasis on strong, indelible characters. Anne McCaffrey’s abilities earned her the distinction of becoming the first woman to win a Nebula Award, while in 2005 the SFWA honored her with the title of Grand Master. And her most unforgettable creations were the Dragonriders of Pern, whose destinies she came to shape with her son Todd.
In Sky Dragons, Pern is imperiled by a plague that has killed scores of dragons, leaving the planet helpless against the fall of deadly Thread. Hope for the future lies in the past, on an island where dragonriders led by Xhinna, a young woman who rides the blue dragon Tazith, battles to build a home. As Pern’s first female Weyrleader, Xhinna must win her peers’ loyalty, even when the colony suffers a shattering loss.
Pern’s survival depends on the dragons traveling through time—but by venturing into the past, Xhinna may be jeopardizing the future she vows to save....
Sadly, Anne passed away in 2011. But she left behind this final Pern novel in collaboration with Todd—a fitting and thrilling conclusion to the saga begun in his novel Dragonsblood.

I AGREE WITH THE OVERALL THEME OF THE COMMENTS. THESE LAST FEW BOOKS SEEM TO BE "PERN LIGHT" JUMPS ALL OVER THE PLACE AND WE REALLY GET LITTLE IN THE MATTER OF KNOWING THE CHARACTERS. DROP IN A FEW KERNALS OF INFORMATION AND MOVE ON. ALSO, I GET THE FACT OF THE SEXUALITY DIFFERENCES, I REALLY DON'T NEED TO BE HIT OVER THE HEAD AD NASUEM. THESE BOOKS NEED A LITTLE MORE FLESH-----LESS DASH. ALSO, HOW ABOUT A LITTLE MORE ABOUT DRAGONS AND THEIR RIDERS. LATELY, IT SEEMS THEY ARE INTERHANGEABLE, LETS HAVE A LITTLE MORE ABOUT THE BONDS, THE MEETINGS, THE HATCHINGS, AND LESS ABOUT COUNTING.

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME!!!
I have read every Pern novel at least once and usually 2-3 times. Before this one, they have all been so very entralling and captivating.
SKY DRAGONS is, without doubt, the weakest of all the Pern novels. It is repetitious, confuses by jumping time so often and does not seem to have a coherent theme or story line.
If Todd McCaffrey, chooses to continue the series I certainly hope that he does a much better job than this last collaboration. It brought nothing new or exciting to the series.

I have to agree with reviewer Coll; this book was dreadful, repeating a lot of old themes and ideas and completely incoherent in places. It is like the record stuck on the plague and just played it over and over again. I have a feeling Anne really had very little to do with this one. I forced myself to read it all though I kept feeling like just throwing it across the room. I think I will just go back and start from the beginning--I still have all the original ones--revel in them all over again.

Excellant book. Couldn't put it down had to finish it at one sitting which I normally do when I read a Pern book. I hope Todd will continue writing about Pern and make his mother proud. Such a great loss to the literary world when she passed.
