Taylor Anderson ignites his alternate history series with explosive naval action in Destroyermen: Fire on the Water!
Maelstrom: Having sided with the peaceful Lemurians against the savage Grik, Lt. Cmdr. Matthew Reddy and the crew of the WWII battleship Walker scramble to prepare for the attack that’s sure to come. Meanwhile, the Japanese juggernaut Amagi, under Grik control, are amassing a force no amount of fire-power and technology will be able to stop. The Walker and its allies face annihilation—but hope may be just over the horizon....
Distant Thunders: The Walker is undergoing repairs after the Grik’s shattering attack, when Reddy is shocked by the arrival of a strange ship. Captained by one Commodore Jenks of the New Britain Imperial Navy, it is crewed by the descendants of British East Indiamen who were swept through the rift centuries before.
Reddy will need all the help he can get to fend off the next Grik attack. But Jenks’ uncertain loyalties make Reddy question whether he can trust the man. As tensions mount between the Allies and Imperials, Reddy realizes his suspicions may not be unfounded—and that a greater danger than the Grik is closer than he suspected.

I like a variety of genres but this series hooked me from the beginning - it is slow in some places but unlike a lot of books I have read, when one of the characters died in this book I actually cried which is very unusual for me. Taylor Anderson has written a very compelling series and I cannot wait for the next book due July 2012 as the last book has me on the edge of a cliff with Fred & Kari in addition to the other story lines. The mix of historic military super action on many fronts and a cast of characters that widely range in radical but believable personalities make this a must read if you like action, history, monsters, and very cool warships.

In this second collection of stories in the Destroyermen saga, 'Fire On The Water', Anderson continues to deliver his strong mix of alternate history and historical military knowledge, first encountered in book one 'Unknown Seas'. The charachters are compelling, the action hot and heavy and the story line is rich with sub-plots. The principle charachters are back, with some intreguing new ones. And be warned, if you don't know it already, Anderson has no aversion, in his reality based war scenarios, to killing off folks you have come to know.
The writing picks up speed as the books progress, rushing you headlong to stirring conclusions and an "I can't wait for the next one" feeling. Enjoy!
