Personally, I felt this novel was too long and too slow paced for my liking. However, it deals mainly with the Bene Gesserit, which I like a lot. They raise another Duncan ghola from a small boy, while keeping a watchful eye on Sheeana on Rakis. The Bene Gesserit are threatened by the return of the Honored Matres from the Scattering, and the secret the Tleilaxu have put in the new Duncan ghola. I did like the character Miles Teg, and his amazing Mentat abilities. His involvement help to keep some of the story interesting and to move along. I don't mean this as a bad thing, but the best was the last few chapters of the book were things really start to unfold. ( I would recommend this book as a first time read of the Dune series.)

The Bene Gesserit rule in this installment in the monumental Dune series. The characters are unforgettable and each one deserves hero status. The Mother Superior Alma Mavis Taraza, worthy of ruling the universe through the Sisterhood. Her chief sister, Odrade, brilliant, mysterious scion of the Atreides line. Her heritage both useful and suspect. Teg, also of that penultimate human breeding achievement, the greatest military leader the sisterhood has ever had. Timeless, imprisoned Duncan Idaho, possibly be the most dangerous human alive. Captive Honored Matre Murbella. Wild, untrustworthy and enslaved by an unbreakable bond to Idaho. The Sisterhood have never faced enemies of such monumental power. The Honored Matres, whose only goal is absolute obliteration of the ancient and powerful Bene Gesserit. The treacherous Theilaxu. The returning Lost Ones. Humans once thought lost forever in the Scattering, return both changed and hauntingly familiar. Wildly imaginative and mind expanding.

Having read the Dune novels from childhood, I could never finish "God Emperor", finding it seriously
lacking. Recently, I ordered the entire Dune set from SFBC and decided to re-read it and finished it, continuing on to "Heretics of Dune". Wow! What a pleasant surprise I got! I am so sorry that I never read the other Dune novels until now. This is the best of the series. Miles Teg deserves a novel unto himself! Anyone who might have had the same problem I had finishing or losing interest with "God Emperor of Dune", take my advice and finish it, or AT LEAST read "Heretics of Dune"! You won't be disappointed.
