Award-winning editors Jack Dann and Gardner Dozois have put their heads together for an anthology that will stir fire in the hearts of dragon-lovers everywhere.
Whether portrayed as terrible fire-breathing beasts at war with humanity, as mindless giants hoarding treasures of gold and precious gems, or as noble creatures mystically bonded to the warriors who ride them, dragons possess the power to enchant and fascinate us. That power is amply demonstrated in the nineteen, never-before-published stories you’ll find in The Dragon Book.
Here you’ll find dragons both ancient as time and newly hatched from the egg; dragons evil and rapacious and wise and benign; dragons hunted to the death and dragons who count humans as their closest friends; ensorcelled dragons and dragons with vast magical powers of their own. You’ll encounter dragons who co-exist with our modern world, and dragons who roam the landscapes of Ancient Rome, Tsarist Russia, darkest Africa and a few realms that exist only in the imagination. Featuring the work of top fantasists such as Tamora Pierce, Naomi Novik, Harry Turtledove and Tad Williams, The Dragon Book is a magical lair you’ll want to enter again and again.

Not worth it for just the Gregory Maguire short story ?Puz_le?, only. That was my mistake. It was a cute and a very super quick read, but it still left me wanting and disappointed at the end. A young girl?s weekend with her father?s new family is ruined by the weather. She complains of boredom to her mom. She works a puzzle while her mom makes supper in the kitchen. The dragon in the puzzle and the young girl argue for the final puzzle piece.
It did not live up to the work I have come to expect from Gregory Maguire. While I continue to consider Gregory Maguire one of ?today?s masters of modern fantasy?, this was by no means even comparable to his superb and fantastic work that I?ve read with its fantastical adult twists and drama. If it did not have his name advertised, you would not have known that it was his work. If you are a fan of any of the other authors listed in this novel, by all means, buy this book and enjoy it. For a picky reader like me with too high of expectations, I wish that I could have enjoyed it too. This book will probably end up in the donation bin, instead of living on my bookshelf, waiting for me to read it again and again. This poor experience does not mean that I will not read Gregory Maguire again. Trust me, I most definitely will!

I have never read a collection of dragon stories before and really enjoyed this book featuring all different types of dragon stories. Most of the stories in the book are great and I was introduced to authors that I have never read before and really liked their work. This book offers a wide variety of stories about dragons and how they interact with the human world. This book was a fascinating read and one that I found hard to put down. I highly recommend this book to anyone that loves dragons and their stories. I especially liked the ones told from the dragon?s point of view and in their own words.

I am normally hesitant to buy books without having either a friend tell me about the Story/Author or having read a book of a series or author by chance. But these stories were great. I like the out of the box approach a couple of the stories take and I am definitely going to pick up other books by several of the authors.
If you like dragons, I highly recommend you pick this book up.
The only fault I can give the book is that it was too short, I would live to see another of these books come out, the sooner the better.
