Star Wars®: Death Troopers

Prepare yourself to venture someplace very new and very scary in a galaxy far, far away, with the release of Star Wars®: Death Troopers by Joe Schreiber—the first-ever Star Wars horror novel, featuring a special cover with a full-color poster printed on the reverse side! From the first appearance of Darth Vader in the groundbreaking movie Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope, Star Wars fans have known what terror feels like—and we loved it. But never before has Star Wars ventured into the unknown territory of true horror...until now. When the Imperial prison barge Purge breaks down in a distant, uninhabited part of space, its only hope seems to lie with a Star Destroyer found drifting, derelict and seemingly abandoned. But when a boarding party is sent to scavenge for parts, only half of them come back—bringing with them a horrific disease so lethal that within hours, nearly all aboard the Purge will die. And death is only the beginning. Nothing can prepare them for what awaits them aboard the Star Destroyer, amid its vast creaking emptiness that isn’t really empty at all. For the dead are rising, soulless, unstoppable and unspeakably hungry.

Excerpt from NJOE Spoiler-Free Review

The mood isn't extreme, but it's there. There's real fear, real suspense. If I had to guess who lived and died in this novel, I would have been completely off in some respects. That said, everything that the mood did suffer from involved lack of detail. There was great detail in some areas but when it comes to horror, you can never have too much, and I felt like more was needed. The characters, too, provide just enough detail. Death Troopers is a superb marriage of what one expects from Star Wars and a classic zombie story. It carries the mood of both without going too far in either direction, and I definitely recommend it to fans of either genre. More Star Wars focused fans might be interested to note that I found myself several times wondering about the involvement of any of a small slew of Sith Lords, any of whom I would have liked to see an epilogue with. Or a sequel.

This is an INCREDIBLE Star Wars Horror novel! To me, Joe Schreiber created a believable SW universe scenario that stands on its own without the addition of SPOILER. I was quite comfortable with the crew of the Purge and was ready to follow their adventure through the story. After I learned that SPOILER were onboard, that was the icing on the cake or should I say the viscera on the gore! It was very hard put this book down. Then I made the mistake of reading it before I went to bed. After about 10 minutes I had to stop because I knew I wouldn't be sleeping well. (Which I didn't) And that is the mark of a good horror story. Congratulations to a job well done! I look forward to Joe Schreiber's next SW Horror novel with great anticipation!

The idea of a star wars horror novel made me do backfilps for the possiblities. But an overall watse of time. There was very little detail. The author could have done so much with this idea. And wasted it on this overall garbage book.Do yourself a favor, buy something else.(Last book i will ever preorder

I don't know why no one else did. Night of the Living Dead comes to Star Wars. It's Star Wars - I don't expect great depth. It's also a nice break from the series that go on and on forever - and ever. Quick read if you just want a little escapism - and it has Han Solo and Chewie before A New Hope. Like I said: I liked it. :)

great idea poor execution

I would say that this book is the Halloween equivalent of the Star Wars Christmas Special. There is no reason why this book is set in the Star Wars universe, except Darth Vader was mentioned 2 or 3 times, a special appearance by a ?guest star? who really didn?t need to be a Star Wars character, and some other references to Star Wars (stormtroopers, star destroyers, and the empire). Not to mention that the book was only 234 pages long with the added bonus of a few chapters from a good Star Wars novel thrown in to up the page count. This book came across to me as a failed screenplay that someone recycled to try and sell as a book. As far as I am concerned Joe Schreiber has been black-listed from my reading list. Do yourself a favor and don?t buy this book, don?t even get it used. Go to the library and borrow it, if they don?t have it, don?t fret, you aren?t missing much but a plot that is deader than the antagonists in this book.
