Preying for Mercy (3-in-1)

Kennewick, Washington car mechanic Mercy Thompson doesn’t exactly have a normal life. Her next-door neighbor is a werewolf. Her former boss is a gremlin. And she's fixing a VW bus for a vampire. But then, she’s not exactly normal herself. Because Mercy Thompson is a walker—a shape-shifter who can change into a coyote at will…. MOON CALLED: When Mercy’s repair shop becomes the hideout of choice for a young runaway werewolf, she’s thrust into a power-struggle between packs that threaten to “out” them all—in a way that could get them killed. BLOOD BOUND: Mercy agrees to act as extra muscle when a vampire friend delivers a message to another of his kind. But this new vampire has a demon inside, a sorcerer who’s wreaking havoc on Washington's Tri-Cities. And Mercy’s pulled into the fray. IRON KISSED: Mercy can shift her shape—but not her loyalty. Her mentor/boss has been arrested for killing a citizen of the fae reservation. And since the fae—his own kind—seem content to let him rot behind bars, it's up to Mercy to clear his name...and that could cost her her life. "In the increasingly crowded field of kick-ass supernatural heroines, Mercy stands out as one of the best." —Locus

Where did the arm tattoos come from?
September 08, 2009

The three stories are great. Many twists and turns to keep the readers entertained. Mercy grew up with werewolves, but was never really told all of the truths about them. The Fae have they're secrets and Mercy has to walk a fine line not to fine out TOO much about them. The biggest mystery is never revealed! What exactly is a Walker? The vampires seem to know; however they never truly come clean with Mercy. My biggest problem is that the cover art is terrible. Nowhere in any of the stories are we told that Mercy has any tattoos other than the coyote paw print on her stomach near her navel.

Vampires don't sparkle!
July 01, 2009

I liked the Twilight series, but this is a much better series -in my arrogant opinion. Mercy is the best, and none of the vampires sparkle. Thank gawd. The bad thing is, I keep cataloging people into vampire, werewolf, human, or fae. It's a bad habit when you stop telling "fae" thank you, stop inviting vampires to my house or making eye contact with them, and desperately go out of my way to not anger the 'werewolves'. You'll understand once you read the book... Lol. I'm a freeeeeeeak.

Mercedes Thompson (Mercy to her friends) is a Volkswagen mechanic in Kennewick, Washington who happens to be a walker - that is, someone who can turn into a coyote at will in a flash. This omnibus is Patricia Briggs's first hardcover book, and collects the first three novels telling Mercy's story. In Moon Called, Mercy finds a teenage boy who happens to be a werewolf. He was turned into a were against his will. When he is later brutally murdered, Mercy and the local were pack follow the trail of his makers and killers all the way to the Montana wilderness to the home of the Werewolf King and beyond... In Blood Bound, the local vampire community asks Mercy to help them track down a renegade who is making a blood bath out of the tri-cities area, which will cause the greater human community to Find Out about the vampires. In Iron Kissed, Mercy investigates to find the true culprit behind the recent killings on the Fae reservation and free her (innocent) Fae mentor from an almost certain death in jail. Running through all the novels is a strong element of romance, as Mercy is wooed by her childhood werewolf boyfriend as well as the handsome pack leader who lives next door. If the blend of mystery, fantasy, and romance appeals to you then you will enjoy these books.

Wonderful series, just wish there was more

I was a little leary about getting a big hardcover book, but this was a great investment. All 3 stories keep you going, and it was very hard to put the book down. I was drawn to Patricia Briggs when I saw "Cry Wolf" at my local bookstore, she's had me since the first page. The Mercy Thompson series is even better than I could have hoped from her other book, and I am currently waiting on my copy of Bone Crossed to arrive. I was so dissapointed when I got to the end of Preying for Mercy and realized I would have to wait for the adventures to continue....Please keep these series' going!!!
