Phone calls at half past dawn are never a good omen for Anita Blake—and this one proves no exception. Larry Kirkland, her Animator's Inc. coworker, has a pregnant wife in early labor and needs Anita to cover for him on an assignment. The deceased is a federal witness who died in FBI protective custody before he could testify; a judge has ruled the witness can be Raised as a zombie, and his testimony taken posthumously.
For anyone else, this would be a piece of cake. But Anita is afraid to fly—and the graveyard is in Philadelphia. And then there's the nasty little problem of being apart from her lovers for so long, forcing her to feed her ardeur—the lust-hunger that still drives her—with some hapless stranger.
Fortunately, her changeling-lover Micah is happy to come to her aid, offering support on the plane—and in the bedroom—as she copes with the nitty-gritty of this assignment. However, what starts off as a routine task in that Philly graveyard becomes anything but as Anita faces down old grudges and even older adversaries, one of whom has developed powers similar to Anita's and is not above either sabotage or subterfuge. Things turn rapidly from bad to worse when she is forced to confront the unsettling, unholy passions Micah stirs in her—even on the job—while she brings forth the most treacherous and terrifying zombie of her career. I am actually a really huge fan of hamiltons work. that being said...this definately was not a good one for her. I actually didnt mind that it was so short..i found that refreshing in a way. but honestly...it was only sex. it had no plot, no meaning whatsoever. but YAY! no JC..or Richard. THANK GOD..is it just me or do they just keep getting more and more BORING??

First off I want to say that I love the Anita Blake series. Now with that said, BOO!!! I WAS RIPED OFF!!! This book should have cost a ¼ of the normal cost for this puffed up short story! The book is 245 pages with 12 chapters. Each chapter starts off with 2 ½ to 3 ½ blank pages. (This counts the ½ to full blank page at the end of the chapter) The book is in 12 pt. and double spaced. The whole story could have been told in 3 chapters. And she should have added it to the beginning of some other book. So in hind-sight for you, do not buy this book. I am a slow reader and I read this book in 2 hours. Read the last 3 chapters in a book store. It'll take about 5 min. and you will be up to speed with this series and ready for the next books which are way better.

The book was good. It gave an insight on why Micah acts the way he does.

Was good reading just a short book. But for the series you have to read it.

I love LKH and the Anita Blake series which I just discovered this year. Her books are usually very satisfying and leave me anxious for the next one. Micah, on the other hand, just angered me. I can't believe it was sold for the same amount as the other books when it was about 1/4 as long. This is a short story that should have been part of another book, or put into a book of shorts. The type was HUGE just to make it seem like it was the length of a regular book, and told us nothing. If you haven't bought it, don't get it new, it isn't worth the price.
