Under the Dome

In his biggest, most ambitious novel since The Stand, blockbuster author Stephen King ups his own considerable ante with Under the Dome, a chilling, apocalyptic tale about a small Maine town that’s inexplicably sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field.

Planes crash into it and fall from the sky. A gardener’s hand is severed as “the dome” comes down on it. Cars explode on impact; families are divided. And no one can fathom what this barrier is, and when—or if—it will go away.

But the chaos caused by the force field’s descent is just the beginning. As the town begins to grasp the full consequences of being under the dome—weather patterns gone mad, imminent food and water shortages, and permanent isolation from the rest of the world—a power struggle begins to take shape. On one side is Iraq vet and short-order cook Dale Barbara, who, along with a few other intrepid citizens, is desperate to get to the bottom of the dome’s mystery. Against them stands Big Jim Rennie, a politician who will stop at nothing—even murder—to hold the reins of power. But their main adversary is the dome itself. Because time isn’t just short. It’s running out.

Edge of Your Seat...
December 27, 2011

This is one of his best, his imagination amazes me, but I wish we could do without some of the graphic descriptions of blood, gore, and violence. I enjoy a good read and this one doesn't let up with the "edge of your seat" suspense but some of his descriptions make me uncomfortable when there is so much of the blood and bodily fluids. This book could easily be turned into a movie and it would be a blockbuster.

A Real Suspense
August 03, 2011

I haven't finished reading it (pg 950). But it is one of his best. It kinda puts me in the mind of "The Stand". Usually his stories start off slow and builds. This one starts with suspense right from the first page. Only sorry that I read someone elses review and they gave away part of the ending.
