“I’m Anita Blake, expert on creatures of the night. Vampires call me The Executioner. What I call them isn’t repeatable.
In my job—I’m an animator; I raise the dead—I’ve seen just about everything. I’ve dined with shapeshifters, danced with werewolves and been wooed, but not won, by Jean-Claude, the most powerful bloodsucker in St. Louis. When a serial killer started offing vampires, it was Jean-Claude who tapped me to find the killer. Later, a rogue vamp named Alejandro hit town and wanted to make me his human servant. A war of the undead had begun. Over me. I’d have been flattered if my life weren’t at stake.
Speaking of life…and death…every animator knows that the older the zombie, the bigger the death required to raise it. These days, the only death “big enough” is a human sacrifice. I don’t kill vampires for the money, and I don’t kill people, so all the money in the world wasn’t enough for me to take the job Harold Gaynor was offering. Someone else did, though—an insane animator who wasn’t just raising the dead…he was raising Hell. And it was up to me to stop it.”

Laurell K. Hamilton is by far, the BEST supernatural author in the world. Once you read one you won't stop until you have read them all. Not only that you will be on the constant look out for the next fix. Sounds dramatic?? Read some and you will see why.

I'm not totally sure but on the collections list The Midnight Cafe might be #2 and Black moon Inn #3.
