The Weird, edited by Ann and Jeff VanderMeer, is an extraordinary compendium of strange and dark tales—so beware when you open this tome; these stories could do dark and strange things to your mind.
A century of intrepid literary experimentation has created this corpus of tales that transcend all known genre boundaries. Its practitioners include some of the greatest names in 20th and 21st century literature, bringing together the wonderfully weird works of an all-star cast of writers, from literary legends to international bestsellers and veritable award winners. You’ll find one hundred and ten stories by writers that include: H. P. Lovecraft, George R. R. Martin, Stephen King, Fritz Lieber and many more!
Exotic and esoteric, The Weird plunges you into dark domains and brings you face to face with surreal monstrosities. You won’t find any entertaining elves or well-intentioned wizards here—but you most certainly will find the biggest, boldest and downright most peculiar stories from the last one hundred years, bound together in the biggest and weirdest collection ever assembled.
But be very careful. The goth-hued stories herein are so fun and infectious they may make you...well, weird.

The VanderMeers have outdone themselves with this massive, comprehensive anthology of weird stories. Probably the largest book of its kind. There are big names (Lovecraft, Moorcock, King, etc) as well as translated tales by authors who will be less familiar to English-reading audiences. Definitely worth investigating.

Very small type, set in 2 columns per page, heavy to hold in hand. All the wordiness disguises the nature of the book, which is "speculative fiction" rather than Weird Tales continuations or anything making a chill somewhere in the body. Most of the authors seem to need a shrink (more so than usual creative types.) Off into the charitable donations bin.
