With A Shadow in Summer and A Betrayal in Winter—his brilliantly original and engaging first novels—Daniel Abraham emerged as a major author in epic fantasy fiction—and his Long Price Quartet is destined to be a landmark achievement in the field.
The ambitious, acquisitive Galt empire has been advancing from the west, bent on world conquest and destroying anything in its path. The Galts have set their sights on the eastern city-states, which for generations have been untouchable.
The vast, efficient Galt army led by General Balasar Gice has acquired a secret weapon that will strip the cities of the magical powers—the andat—that have made them both prosperous and impregnable by conventional means. As one city after another falls to the inexorable might of Galt, only Machi, ruled by its maverick leader, Otah Machi, stands against them. When the men and machines of Galt clash with the poets of Machi, a battle will be fought that will change the world beyond the most dire imaginings of all—even the victors.
Weaving the unique magic, high-stakes betrayal and political intrigue of his previous works with a broad tapestry of action, An Autumn War is sure to thrill Abraham's legions of fans.

I found An Autumn War to be an excellent continuation of the fantasy, politics, intrigue and creativity of the first two books. Abraham weaves a compelling tale that makes visible the gray area that exists between white and black. Are the Galts evil? Are they good? Are they the victims? The truth lies in the gray; Abraham offers a complex story that mirrors the complexity that exists in human nature. I can't wait for the concluding volume!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, as I did the first two in this series. I would give this a 5 star rating, but I have one complaint. The books are almost too real. If you want a meaningful book, with very little fantasy/sci-fi elements to it, I strongly recommend Daniel Abraham.
