The First Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever

One of the best-loved classics of our time, The First Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever by award-winning author Stephen R. Donaldson creates a powerful, lushly imaginative fantasy about a modern-day anti-hero who battles an evil of epic proportions.

When Thomas Covenant awakens after a car accident, it’s to a strange, alternate world where giants walk, magic works and an evil lord menaces all that is good. Yet through all his adventures, Covenant denies the Land’s reality. A deadly mistake, for though he’ll eventually go home to his own world, he will return again and again, to learn to wield his own unique power...and to defeat the dark lord once and for all. Lord Fouls Bane; The Illearth War; The Power That Preserves.

Accidental reading Mike K.
June 15, 2005

I was leaving Korea in 1977 getting ready for 12 hour flight, I looked through our company library and found Lord Foul's Bane. When I got on the 747 I started reading I could not stop until I was finished. As soon as I got home i hit the bookstore and found the two books to complete the story I have since read the chronicles at least 6 times and have read the second chronicles the same. The best series ever written.

A Classic with Integrity

Stephen R. Donaldson's trilogy establishes reality in a work of fiction and integrity in character development. I read it every winter and find some nuance of symbolism that is applicable at all times. Very well written!

Never have I wanted to slap a hero more.

Great trilogy. Although I read it when I was young I am rereading it now. Getting so much more out of it. The only thing that remains is that you just want to throttle the man. Never have I Admired and sympathized and at the same time hated and just wanted to pound the face of a character. Thomas Covenant will give you every emotion that a human can have while reading these books. Something that never happened again.

What fantasy is all about!

I first read the series in high school, early eighties. It starts off slow, but if you can hang in there... you're in for the ride of your life. What a shock! I still re-read these books. & I'm just as thrilled now as I was way back then.

Good book...didn't want to put it down. The second chronicles are even better.
