A major figure in science fiction writing, Orson Scott Card won both Hugo and Nebula Awards (the field's highest honors)for Ender's Game and Speaker for the Dead. Ender's Game, one of SF's most beloved classics, is currently being developed for film, with Card penning the screenplay.
Since he's the author of numerous novels in and out of the genre, it may come as no surprise that Card owns his own publishing company. What may surprise some is that Hatrack River Publications is devoted to fiction of the Latter Day Saints. A dedicated Mormon, Card based his popular early-American fantasy series, The Tales of Alvin Maker, on Mormon history and belief. Look for two more volumes, The Crystal City and Master Alvin, to complete the saga.
Mormonism also informs Card's science fiction epic, The Homecoming Saga, which retells ancient scripture in scientifically plausible ways.
The author of How to Write Science Fiction and Fantasy, which won the Hugo in 1991, Card has taught writing at several universities. He lives in Greensboro, North Carolina with his wife, Kristine.
