Terry Pratchett

TERRY PRATCHETT

Born in England in 1948, Terry Pratchett sold his first story at age 13. With the money he earned, he bought a used typewriter, and in 1971, his first novel, a comic fantasy called The Carpet People, was published to critical acclaim. For many years, Pratchett worked as a journalist and press officer, writing in his spare time. His first novel of the internationally famous Discworld series came out in 1983, and to date he’s published 36 books in that wonderfully wacky world. Regarded as one of the most important English-language satirists, Pratchett has won numerous literary awards, has received four honorary doctorates and been named an Officer of the British Empire. In 2007, he announced that he had been diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s Disease, and subsequently donated $1 million to aid research.
