Jack McDevitt

After a story of his won LaSalle College’s short fiction contest, Jack McDevitt thought his writing career was about to take off. Then he read David Copperfield, decided his work could never reach that level of excellence…and didn’t write another word for 25 years! In the meantime, he joined the Navy, worked as an English teacher, drove a cab, took a customs inspector’s job and became a motivational trainer. Happily, his wife Maureen nudged him back to writing in 1980, and his first novel was vindication of his talent: The Hercules Text won the Philip K. Dick Special Award. Over McDevitt’s brilliant career, his work has been nominated for the Nebula Award fourteen times. His wins include Omega (John W. Campbell Memorial Award) and Seeker (Nebula). Jack and Maureen currently live in Georgia.
